About us: American Boxing Muay Thai and Fitness

American Boxing and Fitness was started in in 2003 by Coach Dave Nielsen as a mobile personal training company, training competitors on the side out of San Diego’s Oldest MMA Gym, San Diego Fight Club in El Cajon.

The pieces fell into place for Dave’s new company and he began training some very notable entrepreneurs and real estate moguls in San Diego. Within a year, his success had earned him the trust of investors who lent him money to open his first storefront @ 2710 Garnet Ave a 3000 square foot facility, 2 miles to the the sand in beautiful Pacific Beach San Diego. Coach was able to pay back his investors in under 3 years.

At that time, Muay Thai was simply not popular in San Diego, so Kru Dave would take his students and test their Muay Thai skills among the Thai Community in underground Muay Thai events throughout the Orange County and Los Angeles area.  With each event, his students would show one of Americas largest Thai communities that Kru Dave and American Boxing Muay Thai Academy San Diego was a legit Muay Thai School.

After almost a decade at his 2710 location, American Boxing moved to 1735 Garnet for another 10 years where the underground Muay Thai scene was replaced by Promotions like WCK Muay Thai, the oldest and longest running Muay Thai promotion in the United States.  Most events were now on Indian Reservations to allow for Full Rules Muay Thai, since the California State Athletic Commission prevented certain techniques.

American Boxing is now in it’s temporary home at 1011 Grand Ave inside Base Fitness, with BIG PLANS COMING for 2020/21!
